Second title for Birkirkara

When the Individual League continued last Wednesday Birkirkara players had another positve day. The eventual winners of the Men's and Ladies Doubles League are already known - both from our club.

Men's League Div. 1

In the only matches played Aldo Polidano/Stefan Salomone won both their matches to win the League, just dropping 1 point to eventual runners up Kenneth Vella/David Cole of Paola Wolves who though finished three points behind. Aldo and Stefan first beat easily Edmond and Rodney Abela of Paola Wolves 21-11, 21-14 to make sure of the title and then went on to beat clubmates Albert Bezzina/Ivan Salomone.

Ladies League Div. 1

With the league already won by Birkirkara pair Maria Borg/Fiorella Sadowski with full points, the only result still to be known was who was going to be runner-up.

In an entertaining match Birkirkara pair Marica Micallef/Katerina Vella beat Catriona and Domenique Francica of Paola Wolves 21-17, 21-13 and then beat Shuttles pair Carmen Spiteri/Grace Saliba. With the four points won Marica and Katerina reached the nine-point mark, the same as the Francica twins of Paola Wolves. However, having won 3 points out of 4 from their direct encounters, the Birkirkara pair claim the runner-up position.

In another match another Birkirkara pair - Marija Attard/Klara O'Berg beat Carmen Spiteri/Grace Saliba of Shuttles.
