Slow start for Birkirkara in the Mixed Doubles

Wednesday 16th saw the beginning of the Mixed League, albeit with disappointing results for our players.

In the first match of the Mixed Div. 1 Aldo Polidano/Maria Borg lost rather surprisingly to Paola Wolves pair David Cole/Catriona Francica 21-14, 21-12 in a match which saw our pair make a lot of unforced errors. Had they paid more attention they would have salvaged at least a point.

The second match on the programme was between Stefan Salomone/Fiorella Sadowski and Kenneth Vella/Domenique Francica of Paola Wolves. During this match Stefan/Fiorella were not their usual selves and lost the first set 21-19. However they managed to rally and show their true worth in the second set to win easily 21-8, thus earning a point.

The third match saw our pairs cross swords against each other. Aldo/Maria won the first set 21-19. Stefan/Fiorella won the second 21-16. It was a balanced match and there was nothing to choose between the two. Let's hope they keep the form showed in this match to be able to surmount future opposition and win the remaining matches.
